Humanistic lab automation, built to last.

Your people, robots and AI agents, working as one.

Sempervirens Automation is a lab automation software consultancy. I design and build the scheduling, integration and AI software that lets scientists, robots and AI agents work together, so machines take on the repetitive work and people keep the judgment. I've worked in lab automation since 2014.

What I build

What does Sempervirens Automation do?

I write the software that sits between a lab's people, its instruments and its data.

  • Scheduling and orchestration

Software that runs liquid handlers, robot arms, readers and dispensers as one system.

  • Integrations

Automation connected to Benchling, LIMS and inventory, so results and sample records stay in sync without copy and paste.

  • Custom lab software

LIMS, compound inventory and Benchling apps built around how a team actually works.

  • AI agent workflows

An agent helps design experiments, plan plate transfers and analyze results, and a scientist reviews each step.

  • Operator interfaces

Screens that show the people at the bench what is running, what is next and what needs them.

  • AI strategy

Helping labs decide where AI will actually get them to results, and helping lab automation companies take AI products to market.

Humanistic technology. Not lights-out labs.

People are very good at many things: noticing what looks wrong, deciding what to try next, knowing when a protocol needs to change. Robots are good at doing the same precise motion ten thousand times. AI agents are good at finding insight in data, tying a lab's scattered instruments and systems together, and building interfaces that turn data into something people can act on.

I design systems where each does what it is best at, and where the handoffs between them are deliberate. Read the approach.

Sequoia sempervirens, the coast redwood. The name means ever-living. Redwoods grow in groves with their roots interlaced, each tree helping hold up the others.

Who is it for?

Research and production labs in biotech and pharma that already own automation, or are about to, and want it to fit their scientists instead of the other way around.

Have a lab in mind?

Tell me what you're trying to automate. Most of my work comes through referrals, so if a colleague sent you, mention them.
